The Combined Fleet and Repair Anchorage
Many ships were caught in the Repair Anchorage. These were often ships that had been damaged en route from Japan or in the battle for Kwajalein just a few weeks prior to the attack on Truk. Typically, ships with severe damage were made seaworthy and sent back to the home islands for major repairs, while those with lighter damage completed their repairs at Truk.
